Gone fishin'

... or swimming, or hiking, or camping. I'll be at the beach, the cottage, the farmer's market, the soccer field. I will most definitely be with family and friends. But you won't find me in my sewing room (at least not often). Not til September.

I've got several orders 'on the books' right now. If you've made a deposit/payment on an order, or if we have discussed a project that I promised for this summer, my "closed for business" status of course does not apply. I just won't be accepting any new orders until the fall.

Rain rain go away

This weekend it has continued to rain & rain & rain. So, while my little girl was napping, my big girl and I decided to do a fun little pinterest-y project. We snooped around in my stash of scraps and chose six that worked together. Then we stretched the fabric in some embroidery hoops that I picked up at a yard sale a while ago for $1.

Ta-da! An almost complete embroidery hoop wall of art. I'm thinking I need at least three or four more hoops to fill this out a little bit, but I'm loving how cute this looks in the big blank space over the change table in my little girl's room.

This whole project literally cost me less than a couple-o-bucks, and took well under an hour... From choosing the fabric to hanging everything on the wall. Love crafty afternoons when they're this short and sweet.

Happy Mother's Day to Me!

Well, I did it. I went and bought my first.sewing.pattern.ever. Can you believe it? Here, I am, sewing away for my side biz, and I've never, ever actually followed a pattern. Until now.

I've been getting more and more acquainted with the amazing world of sewing blogs, and a few days ago I stumbled across Michelle Patterns. I couldn't help myself. I downloaded her pattern for a secret pocket envelope clutch, and I made myself a little Mother's Day present last night. It sewed up really quickly and the pattern was super easy to follow. I was inspired by the retro floral/polka dot combo in the pattern, so I went with something sort of similar- and I'm thrilled with it! Best part- this little clutch really does have a secret pocket, perfect for storing my kindle's power cord.

(Side note: My mom gave me a kindle for my birthday in March, and it's my new best friend).

Hmmm, I can feel a whole new world opening up to me. I've been lying awake at night thinking about all of the possible projects I can sew out of my ridiculously huge stash. Lookout: you may see me wearing one of those quilted vests in the future at this rate. Thank goodness I'm married to a very patient man.

Special delivery

This cheerful trio is heading to it's new home in Cape Breton today (thank you to my lovely express courier, aka my sister-in-law). The floral fabric was a huge hit at the ECMC fair and this week- I've sold every scrap of it, and will be ordering more soon. I'm loving making these pillows- I've refined my pattern over the past few weeks, incorporated a french seam so there are zero unfinished edges inside, and sped up my production quite a bit.

Spring Fair Fever

This week I'm CRAZY BUSY sewing for one of my favourite events of the year: The East Coast Momma Collective Spring Fair. This is always a very successful weekend for me- and this spring, I'm launching my home collection. I'm basically beside myself excited. I can't wait. Come visit me and other incredibly talented East Coast crafters and business women. You won't be disappointed!

Kitchen party

I recently became kind of obsessed with flour sack tea towels. They dry like no other. They've got great texture. They are the perfect accent in my shabby chic meets industrial meets modern country kitchen. So naturally, I decided to make some. Lots, actually.

At last...

The long Nova Scotia winter is finally giving up! The days are milder, brighter, and my crocuses are blooming. This year, with spring comes a burst of creativity. My winter of planning and scheming and ordering unhealthy amounts of gorgeous fabric has paid off. Welcome, Spring.
